For questions 1-8, read the text below and think of the word which best fits each gap. Use only one word in each gap.

Five years ago, Daniel Moore set himself an unusual challenge: to walk along every single street in his home city. At first, his friends thought he was joking. 'They kept asking me 1. on earth I wanted to do it,' he says. The truth is that Daniel had lived in the city all his life but realised he knew only a small part 2. it. He began by buying a large map and marking each street with a red pen as soon 3. he had walked it. Since then, he has covered more than 2,000 kilometres, mostly at weekends and in the evenings after work. Along the way he has discovered hidden gardens, tiny shops and unusual buildings 4. as a house shaped like a ship. He has also met hundreds of people, many of 5. have been happy to tell him about the history of their area. Daniel admits that not every walk has been interesting, but very 6. have been a complete waste of time. He now has fewer than fifty streets left 7. walk, and he hopes to finish before the end of the year. He has no idea what he will do next, but he says he will never give 8. walking.
